Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 could finally respond to Note fans

Samsung plans to make room for an S-Pen case in the next-gen Galaxy Z Fold 5 smartphone.

Although the S Pen works with the Galaxy Fold line — indeed, there's a special, slimmer Fold edition that comes with a protective sleeve, as well as a special case — the inability to store it in the device somewhat detracts from the experience.

Crucially, when you compare that to the dedicated internal slot that Samsung set aside in the classic Galaxy Note lineup, the Fold phones have been replaced in the company's flagship lineup.

The Note's spiritual successor is currently the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is the first 'S' series phone with an integrated S Pen. However, it now looks like Samsung could do the same with the Fold 5, due out in 2023.

According to sources at The Elec, the company is making progress to ensure the S Pen is more compatible with its foldable phone. The report (via 9to5Google) says Samsung is working on a "designated location" as one of the main improvements for next year's phone. Given the limited space available in the current model, this seems far from easy.

The report states, “Some of these challenges include: making phones weigh less and thinner and more durable, reducing crease on the screen, having a designated location for the S Pen, and improving the camera. »

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is Samsung's most successful foldable yet, but there are still plenty of adoption hurdles and room for improvement. This includes the high price and the overall thickness of the device. There's also an absence of apps optimized to make the most of that larger screen.

Our reviewer Max Parker, giving the phone a 4 out of 5 star rating, wrote: "The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 looks futuristic, truly changing what you might expect from a smartphone. It's far from perfect, but it's the best attempt at a foldable phone yet.

Would the presence of an S Pen case convince you that now is the time to embrace foldable phones and finally let go of your Note hangups? Let us know @trustedreviews on Twitter.
