How to wirelessly mirror your Android phone to your TV

Joe fedewa

Gathering people around your phone to show off a photo or video can be overwhelming, but thanks to Android and Chromecast, it doesn't have to be. We are going to show you how to wirelessly mirror your Android phone or tablet screen to a TV.

Before you start, it's worth mentioning that mirroring your screen might not be the best method for sharing content on a TV. Many video and photo apps let you “cast” to a Chromecast-enabled device. It will be a much nicer experience than mirroring your screen.

For all of these other situations, mirroring your screen is a handy tip to know. You will need a few things:

We will start with the easiest method, which is not available on all devices. On your Android phone or tablet, swipe down once from the top of the screen, then swipe a second time to expand the Quick Settings toggle.

Find the toggle labeled "Screen Casting" and tap it.

Select the "Screen broadcast" button

This will bring up a list of devices that you can mirror your screen to. Select the one you want.

find the device to receive screen mirroring

A message will explain that all the information visible on your screen will be accessible to the service. Tap "Start Now" if you're okay with it.

accept the screen casting terms by pressing "Start now"

You will now see your screen on the receiving device.

If you don't have the "Screen Casting" toggle in Quick Settings, you'll need to mirror your screen with the Google Home app. Open the app on your Android phone or tablet and select the device you want to mirror your screen to.

Select a smart display, Chromecast, or Cast-enabled TV in the Google Home app

At the bottom of the app, tap "Cast My Screen".

Select the "Cast my screen" button

You will see a message explaining what the mirroring does. Press "Cast Screen" to continue.

Accept the conditions by pressing "Broadcast screen"

Finally, another message will explain that all the information visible on your screen will be available for the service. Tap "Start Now" if you're okay with it.

You will now see your screen on the receiving device.

To stop broadcasting your screen, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap "Disconnect" on the broadcast notification.

Tap the "Disconnect" button from the notification shade of your Android device to stop screen sharing

That's all we can say about it. Screen mirroring is handy when you want to show something on your phone, but it doesn't work with traditional Google Cast features.

Alternatively, there are ways to mirror your Android handset's display to an Amazon Fire TV or Roku set-top box.
