Google's mysterious Pixel Watch could finally be unveiled very soon

The rumor mill suggests we might finally get a Pixel-branded smartwatch, or at least the tease of one, very soon.

Many people speculated that Google was working on a Pixel Watch, even though there was little evidence to point to its actual launch.

Now leaker Jon Prosser (via Twitter) mentioned the potential timing of the Pixel Watch launch.

Prosser says the smartwatch will be teased at Google's I/O dev conference, which will take place in May. It is also expected that Google's next budget phone, the Pixel 6a, will also be revealed at the event.

However, before hoping for an immediate launch, Prosser said the wearable would actually launch in full in October, alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. These will be the successor to the Pixel 6 line of phones.

While very little is yet known about the wearable, we expect it to run on Google's own Wear OS, which featured on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.

It's important that we take these rumors with a grain of salt, as Prossor himself made conflicting claims regarding the Pixel Watch a few months ago on Twitterclaiming it was going to be delayed until the first quarter of 2022, but confirmed that it was still going to launch eventually.

What's more, Google hasn't confirmed any of these claims, which means we could be waiting longer to encounter the legendary smartwatch, provided it actually exists.

Confidence building

At this point, it's hard to imagine any other technology, aside from Apple's supposed electric car, that has been fueling the rumor mill for as long as the Pixel Watch.

This is a device that really should have debuted when Wear OS 2 was new to give the Apple Watch a run for its money, but when that didn't materialize it absolutely should have been available when we launched on day one of Wear OS 3. The fact that we've waited so long, there's almost no way the Pixel Watch can live up to such high expectations, but there's so much potential in Wear OS 3 that it will still be a welcome sight for sore eyes if it comes across Google I/O.
