Ford unveils next-generation 'Project T3' electric truck

We recently learned that Ford's Model-e division responsible for the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning is set to lose $3 billion in 2023, but that hasn't stopped the Detroit automaker to move forward. The company is now teasing its next electric truck, called Project T3.

Ford's F-150 Lightning electric truck is a great vehicle, but it's basically a 150th-generation F-14 modified into an electric vehicle. If Ford wants to compete with the all-new Silverado EV and RAM 1500 EV, it's going to need a refresh, and one is already in the works.

Today, Ford held a press conference at its $5 billion BlueOval City EV manufacturing plant and campus, which is currently in production to help ramp up EV production and meet demand. During the event, CEO Jim Farley unveiled an all-new revolutionary 'Project T3' electric truck is what's coming next.

Unfortunately, other than the teaser image above indicating it will arrive in 2025, we don't know much about the Q3 yet. It could be the production schedule or the release date of the vehicle, but we can't say for sure.

“The T3 project is a unique opportunity to revolutionize the American truck. We combine 100 years of Ford truck know-how with world-class talent in electric vehicles, software and aerodynamics. It will be a platform for endless innovation and capability. – Ford CEO Jim Farley

During the press conference, Ford confirmed that Project T3 stands for "Trust the Truck", then explained that it would be a vehicle that truck owners could completely trust. By that we mean an electric truck that can tow and haul with the best gas-powered vehicles while pushing ahead with innovative features to beat the competition. At one point the company compared it to the Millennium Falcon and said it would be the Millennium Falcon of trucks.

Keep in mind that the T3 project is just a code name and will likely get an F-150 moniker shortly. Ford also noted that the T3 project would be fully updatable via over-the-air software updates, would be constantly improving and would have all the latest features such as "exportable power", known as two-way charging.

If the next-generation Ford electric truck starts production and arrives in 2025, we're guessing a prototype or concept will be shown later this year or early 2024. That all sounds promising, but we'll have to wait and see for sure. instant.
