Microsoft Introduces Dropbox Public Preview to Microsoft 365 Migration Tool

Microsoft has announced the public preview of a new tool for Microsoft 365 admins that makes it easier to migrate content from Dropbox for Business to Microsoft 365.

The tool will allow you to migrate your Dropbox folders, files and users to OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams in Microsoft 365 and collaborate in one place.

When you sign in to a Dropbox for Business account, the service begins to discover users and their files. The service will automatically map to an individual's OneDrive accounts, but you can also manually map to a OneDrive user account, SharePoint site, or Teams channel.

It allows you to view files and quantity of folders, rating, before moving on to the Migrate tab where you will see the source and progress.

To use the tool, sign in to the SharePoint admin center, select Migration in the left pane, and then select Dropbox. You will be guided through the steps and will be prompted to provide the relevant information needed to start your migration.

Note: To access it, you must be a Global Admin or OneDrive / SharePoint Admin of the Microsoft 365 tenant you want to migrate your content to.

This preview currently supports small to medium Dropbox accounts. For large Dropbox accounts, some features may not work as expected. You can use Mover.io if the size of that Dropbox account exceeds the limit supported by this preview release.

Microsoft recently introduced a similar tool for Google Workspace.

Microsoft will begin rolling out the Migration Tool for Public Preview at the end of May and hopes to complete the rollout in early June.
