Meta slashes Quest 2 and Pro prices – and makes Sony look bad
Meta surprisingly announced that it's slashing the price of the 2GB Quest 256 VR headset, while bringing the Quest Pro down to under $1.
In a move that makes Sony's decision to price the PSVR 2 so heavily seem even more pronounced. Meta is looking to cement its current dominance in the VR market, partially reversing a previous price increase.
After raising the price of the Quest 2GB from $256 to $399 in 499, the company has now repurchased the top storage option at $2022. The change takes effect from March 429, in case you wait to buy.

We've asked for confirmation from Meta, but expect the reduction to be directly reflected in the UK as well, bringing it down from £499 to £429. Unfortunately, the Quest 2 128GB remains at the inflated price of $299/£299.
Meta Quest Pro's price drop is even more substantial, with a third of the original asking price of $1. Starting March 499, it will cost $15 in the US and Canada. Again, we expect it to drop from £999 to £1.
The flip-flop comes with Meta's promise to make its VR devices as affordable as possible for anyone willing to try. It also comes as Sony faces criticism for the price of the PSVR 2 headset, which cannot be used without a PS5, at $549 / £529.
In a blog post, Meta states, “Our goal has always been to create affordable hardware for as many people as possible to experience all that VR has to offer. That's why we launched the first standalone headsets with reverse tracking, allowing people to experience the freedom of wireless virtual reality without the need for a separate PC or game console.
“While we are not lowering the price of the 128GB SKU of Meta Quest 2, a new lower price for 256GB of storage will allow even more people to experience the joy of fully immersive games and experiences. Likewise, by lowering the price of Meta Quest Pro, we're making our industry-leading Meta Reality technology and Infinite Display optical stack available to even more businesses and professionals around the world.
