How to order takeout with the Google Assistant

In April, Google announced a number of Google Assistant updates for the spring. One of the most pandemic-friendly features is a tool that helps you order food faster with the help of the smart assistant. Here is how to use it.

While you still have to research the restaurant yourself and the assistant isn't quite ready to pick your dinner for you, the smart assistant can now take care of the boring part. Google uses contact details and payment information saved in Google Pay and synced with Chrome's autofill to automatically track the restaurant's checkout process.

The functionality is powered by Google Duplex technology, which the company previously used to make it easier to book tables in restaurants and book movie tickets over the web.

While the Google Assistant feature is currently only available at select chains in the United States, Google plans to expand it to more restaurants this year. Google has yet to reveal whether the feature will be available in the rest of the world at this time, but we hope to see it roll out in the UK in the future.
