Google Pixel 7 vs Pixel 6: what are the main differences?
Google has unveiled its newest series of smartphones, the Pixel 7. But what's changed from the Pixel 6 series from the previous year?
The Pixel 6 series was a key turning point for Google's line of handsets, launching the manufacturer's first own-brand chipset and a radical new redesign to boot.
Has the Pixel 7 generation done the same, or does it just offer a subtle step up from its predecessor? Read on to find out the main changes that have been made.
In this section:
Design
The first, and most visibly different, is the design of the new handset. While its predecessor had a wide camera bar extending across its rear, this one has been adapted with a metallic finish and a rounded opening for the camera sensors. It certainly looks a bit more attractive and upscale, and the color options are also very pleasing to the eye.
Camera for selfies
The camera is perhaps the most admired feature of the Pixel series of phones, but there aren't huge hardware changes when comparing the Pixel 6 and 7 side-by-side.
The biggest difference is that the Pixel 6 had an 8-megapixel front camera, and this has been replaced by a 10,8-megapixel resolution on its successor, which enables 4K video recording.
Processor
The chipset on board the Pixel 7 has also been refreshed compared to that of its predecessor. While the Pixel 6 boasted Google's first mobile processor, the Tensor, its sequel packs the Tensor G2, so we're hoping to see some performance improvements, especially when it comes to Google's image processing specialty.
Safety
While both handsets feature the Titan M2 security co-processor, the Pixel 7 will offer additional security features including a built-in VPN powered by Google One which is free. This could give users more peace of mind when dealing with sensitive data on their phones.
First impressions
We haven't spent any time with the Pixel 7 yet, but from the specs we've compared, it looks like there are very few major differences, especially in the display, rear camera or battery.
If you're wondering if it's worth upgrading from 6 to 7, we think you should wait until our review is out and we can look into the updates in much more detail.
