Google favors current or seasonal content

Google now highlights sites that publish news related information. Update on the new “Freshness based ranking” algorithm, just patented by the Mountain View firm in November 2015.

It is now official. Google highlights in its results the sites that publish news in the air or related to the news. The search engine just got a 3e patent which details this approach semantics, already applied on Google France.

If the search engine wants to keep up with the times, it is quite simply to better satisfy Internet users. When looking for information, the majority of them prefer recent documents over older ones. Google therefore favors recently uploaded web pages when it comes to current affairs research.

The engine is hungry for new quality content

Since the most recent Google updates (Colibri, Quality, etc.), specialists in natural referencing (SEO) already knew that the engine was fond of new content of quality, frequently uploaded (“Freshness” criterion).

This time, with this new patent, it's official. Google has formalized the technology capable of identifying sites that post quality information online, in tune with the times. To succeed in detecting the current topics and the sites which stick best to these topics, the engine uses its capacities of observation in two stages.

  1. First step: Google identifies the themes and keywords that stand out the most in the news. Its algorithm (internal program), evaluates, for each theme, the number of internet searches and the number of news articles that have been published in online media, blogs, social networks ... This gives the engine l importance given to this theme by Internet users.
  2. Second step, when an Internet user searches for a given topic, Google first presents him with the sites in which he trusts the most and which have published quality information, on this theme, recently.

Sites that surf the news will be pampered

Google favors sites with trendy content

The engine promotes information related to seasonality or a news: the major events of the moment, the consequences of the weather, sales, holidays, trade shows or general public, major social or school stages, great discoveries ... The smartest sites, which will know how to surf on the news, will therefore be pampered compared to those who have not published anything new for ages.

In January, all “Special Sale” promotions, for example, will be qualified as news related content by the engine. In November, all of the blog posts that had been published following the Paris attacks had been favored by Google as news-related content, which corresponded to the concerns of most people.

Is it sales period? Offer tips and tricks on your site to get the best deals. Or publish your selection of products at unbeatable prices. You will increase your chances ofattract google. Is it clementine season? Publish new original recipes! This development leads Google, once again, to favor quality and freshness of contents, in addition to links to this content.
