Focus on Google's new option "About this result"

Google announced, on February 1, 2021, the deployment of a new feature called " About this resultt ”. It is currently being launched on a phased basis in the United States. It mainly concerns searches carried out in English and is displayed only on computer and smartphone.

Google has confirmed that it will be in effect internationally by the end of 2021. What is it? Let's take stock in this article.

A new way to tell you more about a site

The American web giant continues to develop and improve its services to optimize search results and offer a User experience quality.

With this functionality, it becomes possible to visualize all the information concerning a website given without having to click on the link.

To visualize this very practical information, you will now find three small dots that appear at the top right side of each search result. You just need to click on it and a window will open and show you all the details you need.

With the launch of this new feature, Google's primary goal is to save users from having to do additional searches on a web page and quickly access information for boost research time.

What are the main information displayed?

As mentioned, this feature gives you a bunch of useful information about a website so that you can decide whether you want to access it or not. These include:

  • The description of the website: for this, Google relies more precisely on the description automatically generated by Wikipedia. However, if a website is not listed on Wiki, instead of this description you are entitled to an additional indication such as the date the Googlebot first indexed the site;
  • An indication of the history and age of the site: that is, the first time it was referenced by the Google search engine;
  • A brief overview of the security level of the web page in question to know if it uses an SSL certificate or an HTTPS protocol;
  • The ability to view the full site address (URL) and whether it is an organic or rather sponsored search result.

With "About this result", Google confirms its commitment to provide an optimized browsing experience. It adapts more and more to the aspirations of users who become more informed and who seek more security when browsing the web. This also happens by taking the Page Experience into account by Google Search from May 2021.
