All about WIFI 7

There are many electronic and electrical devices currently on the market that work by connecting them to WiFi networks, including WiFi 7. The latter is among the big main factors of the evolution of technology. Presented under the 802.11be standard, it is a new wireless technology which is none other than the improved version of the previous Wifi 6. Not to mention its speed, the use of Wifi 7 also provides several other advantages. Here's everything you need to know about this Wifi 7.

Wifi 7: a new standard for a more optimal internet connection speed.

Wifi 7: maximum speed

Since WiFi 7 is an upgraded version of WiFi 6, it shouldn't come as a surprise that one of its main strengths is the fact that it has higher speeds. Wi-Fi 6 can be considered fast. However, this pales in comparison to Wifi 7 which claims to be the fastest wireless technology available. It may well exceed the speeds of wifi 6 which offers a throughput of 9,6 Gbps. Moreover, this new wireless technology has a maximum throughput of nearly 46 Gbps. A high speed which is multiplied 4,8 times the speed of Wifi 6. Wifi 7 takes advantage of the number of flows managed, the modulation of the signal and the width of the frequency bands to achieve such a speed.

Wifi 7: frequency modulation

Wifi 7 uses OFDMA modulation which was created in 1966 and became popular with the use of ADSL. This modulation makes it possible to emit electromagnetic signals at a varied frequency. In fact, OFDMA is a method that can be used to transmit digital data in a basic transmission system. However, the OFDMA used by Wifi 7 is an enhanced version, including OFDMA Enhanced. Thanks to this modulation, wifi 7 is able to transmit twice as much data per hour as wifi 6E. In fact, this modulation displays a value ranging from 10-bit to 12-bit, a raw performance of 20%.

Wifi 7: Bands and Channel Size

Before wifi 7, there was wifi 5, wifi 6 and wifi 6E. The frequency bands of the latter are supplemented from one version to another standard. Here are the details :

  • Wi-Fi 5: 5GHz;
  • Wi-Fi 6: 2,4GHz, 5GHz;
  • Wi-Fi 6E: 2,4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz;
  • Wi-Fi 7: 2,4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz.

Between wifi 6E and Wifi 7, there is no difference on the band. However, there is a big difference in channel size including:

  • Wifi 6E: 20, 40, 80, 80+80, 160 MHz;
  • Wifi 7: from 160 MHz to 320 MHz.

This difference of 160 MHz is very important, because it contributes to increase the transmission rate of this IEEE wireless network standard..

Wifi 7: data flow

Data flow is a system to ensure the reliability and speed of transmission from one device to another. With the latter, the greater the number of streams, the greater the reliability and speed of the network. For wifi 7, it uses 16 streams, which is double that of its predecessor. In fact, the purpose of deploying this network standard is to reduce latency. With such a flow and thanks to the 6 GHz frequency band and the OFDMA Enhanced modulation, the problem of connection latency will be reduced.

Wifi 7: MRU and Puncturing

This wireless networking standard uses Multiple RUs, a system for varying the size of RUs and better distributing them among users. In addition, Puncturing has been added in this new data distribution. Thus, there will be no more unused RUs which is the case with the previous IEEE wireless network standard.

In fact, OFDMA is becoming increasingly popular and has been improved with wifi 6 and again with wifi 7. This introduction has resulted in 25% reduction in internet connection latency, but OFDMA Enhanced again improves the efficiency of this IEEE wireless networking standard by 20%.

WiFi 7: Multi-Link Operations (MLO)

This new IEEE standard uses MLO or Multi-Link Operations. The latter allows you to change the band if the signal is bad, as with smartphones. Which is surely a great advantage with this wireless network standard. Which also helps reduce a significant percentage of internet connection latency.

This new IEEE standard will undoubtedly revolutionize the technology industry. Thanks to this technology, the internet connection latency with your devices will be resolved. As such, many manufacturers of wifi chips did not wait for the finalization of this standard for their new products. Indeed, they have already planned to equip their devices with a wifi 7 chip.
